Dr. Griffith began his career in 1962 as the Principal Applications
Scientist at Beckman Instruments, Spinco Division (Palo Alto,
CA) where he developed new methods for their existing centrifuges.
After retiring from Beckman Instruments he consulted with FIBERLite
Centrifuge, Piramoon Technologies (Santa Clara, CA) where he continued
expanding research methods for using lightweight carbon fiber
rotors to replace metallic rotors which were used in all existing
centrifuges at the time. These carbon fiber rotors enabled
researchers to reduce run times for the preparation and purification
of large and small volumes of proteins, antibodies, subcellular
organelles and nucleic acids (DNA & RNA). The rotors
were also used for harvesting large volumes of virus from cultures
for vaccine preparation and mammalian cells or bacteria grown
in culture for biotechnology studies. Advanced techniques
were used in the rotors for analytical ultracentrifuges, preparative
and tabletop centrifuges. In addition, Dr. Griffith presented
seminars worldwide on his peer-reviewed research studies accomplished
in the laboratory. This book embodies a compilation of some
of the most recent research projects he developed.
